At Villa del Palmar at the Islands of Loreto, sustainability is integral to our operations. Our commitment extends from our luxurious resort to the acclaimed TPC Danzante Bay golf course. Here's a closer look at our eco-friendly initiatives:
Our commitment to sustainability begins with energy efficiency. Solar panels on the resort's roofs harness the abundant sunshine to reduce our energy consumption. We use this solar energy to pre-heat water for rooms, kitchens, and our spa, ensuring efficient energy use throughout the property. Additionally, solar-powered lamps illuminate exterior walkways, preserving the breathtaking views of sunsets and starry nights while utilizing clean energy.
A sophisticated seawater purification system converts water from the Sea of Cortez into clean, usable water for the resort, eliminating the need for a lengthy pipeline from the town of Loreto and reducing our environmental footprint.
Our greywater recycling program helps conserve water by treating and repurposing it for irrigation throughout the golf course. Additionally, our gardens feature native plants that are naturally drought-resistant and require minimal water, enhancing our commitment to sustainable water management.
Our air conditioning and refrigeration systems are designed with efficiency in mind. We use water-cooled heat exchangers that capture and repurpose the heat generated by these systems to pre-heat our swimming pools, significantly reducing energy consumption. Inside, we’ve installed LED lighting in all rooms, which not only saves energy but also extends bulb life and reduces heat generation. Additionally, our intelligent A/C system uses sensors to monitor room occupancy and adjust cooling accordingly. It prevents simultaneous starts of the air conditioning units and automatically regulates the temperature of the chilled water, avoiding energy peaks and optimizing overall efficiency.
We operate a comprehensive recycling program that separates aluminum, glass, plastic, cardboard, metal, and vegetable oil. Proceeds from these efforts support local communities. Additionally, if needed, our restaurants offer biodegradable straws and plastic glasses made from recycled materials.
TPC Danzante Bay was designed with sustainability in mind. Plants removed during construction were either transplanted or used as compost to preserve native landscaping and enrich the soil. Renowned architect Rees Jones’s design integrates the course seamlessly into the natural landscape, preserving local flora and providing wildlife habitat.
The golf course is covered with two varieties of Paspalum grass: Sea Spray Paspalum on the fairways and roughs, and SeaDwarf Seashore Paspalum on the greens. These salt-tolerant grasses require minimal use of pesticides and fertilizers. Organic fertilizers are used on the greens to avoid harmful chemicals and pesticides.
The resort’s location within one of Mexico’s largest protected national marine parks helps limit the size and power of boats traversing its waters, minimizing pollution and protecting the area’s abundant marine life. We partner with Mexico’s Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) to preserve indigenous flora and fauna and with the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas (CONANP) to protect marine turtle nesting sites on our beach. Additionally, we follow guidelines that enhance ecosystem conditions in Loreto Bay National Park, ensuring their conservation and sustainable use.
At Villa del Palmar at the Islands of Loreto and TPC Danzante Bay, sustainability is more than a commitment—it's a way of life. We invite our members to join us in preserving the stunning natural beauty of Loreto, ensuring that future generations can enjoy its wonders just as we do today.
